OnePlus may have decided to discontinue the production and sale of televisions and monitors in India. The BBK Electronics-owned Chinese brand has removed the TV and Displays categories from its India website hinting at a potential shift in business strategy. OnePlus forayed into the television category back in 2019 by launching the OnePlus TV Q1 series. Over the years, it released multiple affordable and mid-range smart TV models in the country. OnePlus is yet to share an official statement regarding its exit from the TV and Display business in India.

OnePlus has silently removed the TV and Displays sections from its official Indian website, indicating a potential departure from the TV market in the country. The microsite for TVs and Display currently shows a 404 error page.

So far, OnePlus has not announced its exit from the smart TV market in India. Gadgets 360 has reached out to the brand for a comment on the matter and will update the story once we get a response.

OnePlus entered the smart TV market in India in 2019 with the OnePlus TV Q1 series. Since then, the company has launched several models in different price ranges. However, OnePlus hasn’t released any new TV models since last year. Meanwhile, the company has only two models — OnePlus X 27-inch and OnePlus E 24-inch — in its monitor product portfolio. Another BBK electronics subsidiary Realme has also reportedly ceased the production and sale of its smart TVs in India.

The brand is a leading player in India’s smartphone market. According to Counterpoint Research’s Monthly India Smartphone Tracker, OnePlus was the fastest-growing brand in India’s smartphone market in Q2 2023 with 68 percent year-on-year growth. The company has kicked off its journey in 2024 with the launch of OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R in January. The OnePlus Nord CE 4 is confirmed to go official on April 1.

LG is a well-known name in the TV space that makes some of the best TVs around. Someday, I’d like to own or try the LG Signature Rollable TV, which is an incredible piece of technology.

Coming back to reality, the LG QNED 83 Series TV price in India starts at Rs. 1,59,990 for the 55-inch variant. There’s also a 65-inch version, priced at Rs. 2,19,990.

LG QNED 83 Series TV: What’s new

In terms of design, the LG QNED TV looks like most 55-inch TVs, with a slim design and non-existent bezels. The power cable has an angled connector, making it easy to plug the TV when wall-mounted. The ports on the rear are easily accessible, and you get plenty of options. The TV looks and feels good, and it should, considering the price tag. The LG branding is minimal and non-distracting. All you see is the 55-inch panel.

Now, you might be wondering what QNED is. LG claims this is the “next generation of LED TVs”. It’s a marketing term used by LG, but some technological advancements are also behind it. QNED TVs get mini-LED backlighting and use quantum dot and nano cell technology to provide brighter images compared to standard LED TVs. This is immediately noticeable when watching content on the LG QNED 83 TV. The LG TV offers vivid colours, brighter details, and deeper blacks than a regular LED panel. In the little time I spent watching a couple of episodes and YouTube videos on the TV, I was left very impressed.

The panel has a 120Hz refresh rate, a boon for gamers like me. I haven’t yet had the chance to play games on the LG QNED TV, but I’m sure I’ll have a lot of fun when I do. The TV also comes with plenty of Picture settings including a Game mode and an AI mode, which is expected to boost the viewing experience when gaming.

LG’s QNED 83 Series TV also offers Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support. In my initial testing, I found the TV sound to be loud and clear. There was some distortion at higher levels, but mostly, the sound was excellent. LG has included some AI goodness on the TV, which makes the sound even better. We’ll talk more about this in the full review.

Apart from the panel, one of the main features to look out for on a TV is the software and the brains behind everything. Although the LG QNED 83 TV lacks Google’s Android OS, there’s not much you’re going to miss out on if your primary purpose of using the TV is for streaming and gaming. The TV has a much improved webOS user interface, which I found super smooth and responsive. You’ll get access to all your favourite streaming apps and a browser, and there’s also an App Store where you can download more apps and games. There’s support for AirPlay as well.

The LG QNED 83 Series TV is powered by LG’s A7 Gen6 AI processor, which makes sure everything runs smoothly. I haven’t faced any kind of stutter or lag during my use, and the TV even kept apps in memory so I could continue watching a video as soon as I opened an app. I’d also like to talk about the included remote, which has a scrollable wheel at the centre, making it easy to navigate the UI. You can also point the remote at the TV and use it as a mouse, which is a much faster way to navigate.

LG QNED 83 Series TV Initial thoughts

LG has done a great job with the QNED 83 series of TVs. Among other LED TVs, this one feels refreshing, and the 120Hz refresh rate will surely make gamers happy. The software and UI are smooth, and there are also plenty of apps. The sound is pretty good, too. The LG QNED TV would be an excellent choice for those with consoles or those who want a premium smart LED TV with an OLED-like experience. Reliance Digital has announced that its Digital Discount Days sale will begin from April 6 and end on April 15. During this sale, a wide range of electronic items will be offered at discounted prices. Alongside lowered prices of products, customers will also be eligible to access additional exchange discounts and bank offers. Products like smartphones, smart TVs, laptops, tablets, soundbars and more can be purchased at considerably lower rates than their usual market prices. Buyers can get electronic items at considerably discounted prices from several leading brands.

The dates for the upcoming sale were announced in a press release on Friday. The company revealed that the sale will run between April 6 and April 15. Customers will be able to avail of discounts during the sale at Reliance Digital and My Jio stores, and will be eligible to get up to 10 percent instant discount on leading bank cards. They can also win cashback of up to Rs. 15,000 on purchases during the sale.

The company states that there are also several EMI options available on many products that are expected to be convenient for shoppers. The company also noted that all the offers discussed above, as well as the following ones, are subject to terms and conditions. The exact prices and discount details are expected to be revealed once the sale is live.

The Digital Discount Days Sale from Reliance Digital will offer LG OLED and Samsung Neo QLED smart televisions with a 45 percent discount, starting at Rs. 79,990. The company added that 43-inch full-HD smart TVs from other brands will be sold with a 40 percent discount, starting at Rs. 16,990.

iPhone models are also said to be available at lowered prices during the sale. The company claimed that customers can get a ‘double exchange bonus’ of up to Rs. 12,000 on all iPhone models to get the handsets at a lowered effective price. However, it did not clarify what the ‘double exchange bonus’ entails and what smartphones will be eligible for the bonus.

More products from Apple like the MacBook M1 model will be available at a 33 percent discount alongside no-cost EMI options starting at Rs. 54 per day. The 64GB Wi-Fi variant of the iPad 9th Gen will also be offered at the lowest effective price of Rs. 23,900.

The company added that during the sale, a range of gaming laptops will also be offered at discounted prices starting at Rs. 49,999. The Bose Soundbar 900, can be bought at a 30 percent discount at a price of Rs. 72,990, while Dolby Atmos soundbars will be available at a 65 percent discount, starting at Rs. 17,990. 

Home appliances like air conditioners and washing machines will be available at discounted rates during the Digital Discount Days Sale. The company stated that 1 Ton 3-star inverter ACs will be offered at the price of Rs. 20,990, while high-end 11kg or 7kg washing machines with dryers will be available at Rs. 61,990. Refrigerators starting at Rs. 49,990 will also be available for purchase during the Reliance Digital sale, according to the company.

Samsung has introduced seasonal offers for its wide lineup of products in India, including smartphones, wearables, TVs, tablets, audio products and more. The company has launched a ‘New BigInnings’ programme to boost sales during the wedding season in the country. Under the programme, consumers will be offered curated product packages, which can be availed when buying three or more Samsung products. The programme will also bring special services to help consumers to set up their new home.

According to a Samsung press release, customers can avail a discount of seven percent while buying three or more Samsung products. The offers under the ‘New BigInnings’ programme are available throughout the wedding season, till February 29, 2024. The South Korean electronics giant is also providing affordable EMI options starting at Rs. 6,999.

The programme will bring discounts to a wide range of smartphones, home entertainment products, audio products, and more. Notably, the seven percent discount can be availed on a combination purchase of the latest Samsung foldables like Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, and wearables like the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, Galaxy Watch 6, and Galaxy Buds 2.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, launched in July, runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy SoC and sports a 7.6-inch AMOLED inner display, along with a 6.2-inch cover screen. The foldable uses Samsung’s new Flex Hinge with a dual rail structure. The 256GB variant of the foldable is priced in India at Rs. 1,54,999.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 also runs on the custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. It sports a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,640 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex inner display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The cover display is a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED folder-shaped screen with 720×748 pixels resolution and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The 256GB variant of the phone costs Rs. 99,999.

In addition to the smartphones and wearables, Samsung is also providing discounts on the combination purchase of its televisions like the Neo QLED TV, QLED TV, and Frame TV, alongside its line of refrigerators. Offers are also available on Samsung soundbars, ACs, washing machines, microwaves, and more.

Samsung’s wedding season packages can be availed on the Samsung website until February 29, 2024. In addition to the seven percent discount on the purchase of three or more products, the company is also offering a five percent discount upon buying two or more Samsung devices.

Google, like all other major tech companies, is making its presence felt at CES 2024. The search engine giant announced a bunch of updates at the event Tuesday, including a new way to share images, files, and text between devices. Google is partnering with Samsung to introduce Quick Share, a unified cross-Android file sharing solution that brings Google’s Nearby Share and Samsung’s Quick Share under a single branding. The company said it had integrated the services to bring a default peer-to-peer content sharing option for Android and Chromebook devices. Additionally, Google is also working with manufacturers to bring Quick Share as a pre-installed app on Windows PCs.

With Quick Share, users can see a list of nearby available devices with a single tap of an icon. Of course, just like Apple’s AirDrop feature, Quick Share will allow users to tweak privacy settings to choose who can discover their Android device and send files. According to Google’s blog post detailing its CES announcements, the Quick Share feature will start rolling to current Nearby Share enabled devices in February.

Google also announced that it is extending Fast Pair support for Bluetooth accessories to Chromecast with Google TV next month and more Google TV devices later this year. Fast Pair allows users to seamlessly pair Bluetooth devices like headphones to Android phones and Chromebook laptops with a single tap in pairing mode. With the new update, TV audio can be quickly channelled to a pair of headphones or Bluetooth speakers.

There are more updates on the Chromecast front. While users can easily cast content from YouTube and other apps on their TV, Google is expanding the casting ability to more apps. Users can now cast TikTok content from their phones to Chromecast built-in devices. The ability to cast live videos from the social media app to the TV is also coming soon, the company said. Google is also rolling out a new casting feature that lets users cast music and podcasts from Spotify and YouTube Music apps on compatible Pixel phones to a nearby Pixel Tablet in docked mode.

Google is also bringing increased interoperability across devices with Matter, its standard for smart home platforms, apps and devices. “In the future, LG TVs and select Google TV and other Android TV OS devices will act as hubs for Google Home. So if you have a Nest Hub, Nest Mini or compatible TV, it’s easy to add Matter devices to your home network and locally control them with the Google Home app,” the blog said.

And finally, upgrades are coming to Android Auto as well. In the coming months, EVs compatible with Android Auto will be able to share real-time battery information with Google Maps, according to the company. This feature will provide battery estimates upon arriving to your destination, suggest stops on the route, and estimate charging times.
